EL Research Areas

Four research scientists from three diverse labs traveled more than 5,700 miles to share the expanse of ERDC’s research capabilities at a technology demonstration for the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence.
Scientists at the Engineer Research and Development Center perform research aimed at improving OHWM delineation practices across the country.  They work to test and validate the field indicators and methods used in OHWM delineations in order to develop regional and national OHWM delineation standards and procedures.

Dr. Martin Schultz, EL research environmental engineer, focuses on developing methods to make probabilistic statements about the potential sources of eDNA detected in monitoring samples and the presence of live fish in the Chicago Area Waterways System.

Studies at ERDC fall into two broad categories: (1) Large, comprehensive Programs and (2) Comparatively specific, Reimbursable studies that are mainly conducted for Corps of Engineers District offices and usually apply to particular geographic areas. The list of Programs to the left contains civil and military research that includes nuisance species, aquatic plants, dredging effects, recreation management, wetlands, and environmental quality. Research conducted under Programs usually differs from Reimbursable studies in that it is directed toward larger, more compressive questions pertaining to resource management and impact assessment.  Click for a full listing of EL's programs.
