Sediment Management

We discover, develop and deliver tools to beneficially manage sediment resources, including use of natural processes to solve engineering problems and enhance natural resources while balancing national security and economic requirements.

Managing sediment to benefit a region potentially saves money, allows use of natural processes to solve engineering problems and improves the environment.

Our research, development and technologies help manage the entire environment, from the watershed to the sea; accounts for the effect of human activities on sediment erosion as well as its transport in streams, lakes, bays and oceans; and, protects and enhances the nation’s natural resources while balancing national security and economic needs.

We strive to create healthy systems by using best management practices for more efficient and effective use of sediments in coastal, estuarine and inland environments. We utilize short and long-term economically viable and environmentally sustainable solutions; we recognize sediment as a valuable resource both locally and regionally; and, we work to improve operational efficiencies and natural exchanges of sediments.
