What We Do

What We Do

Our Mission

At ERDC’s Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, our mission is to discover, develop, deliver, and sustain technologies that provide high-quality facilities and realistic training lands to the Army, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Nation while also supporting ERDC’s strategic research and development focus areas of multidomain operations, smart and resilient installations, advanced materials engineering, robotics and autonomous systems capabilities, military engineering, and civil works.

What We Do

Our work centers on military installations, contingency bases, sustainable training lands, and support to civil works. One of the goals of our research is to increase the Army’s ability to design, construct, operate, and maintain its installations and contingency bases more efficiently. We want to maintain these installations and contingency bases’ environmental quality and safety while reducing their life-cycle costs. We also focus on enhancing the public’s understanding of military operations and improving civil works infrastructure.

Our Research Areas

Our research areas include:

  • Sustainable installations
  • Military ranges and lands
  • Resilient facilities and infrastructure
  • Smart sustainable materials
  • Installation decision support
  • Urban and stability operations
